14K gold is a practical choice for daily wear, but bracelets take more direct contact than most jewellery. Some light scratching and dulling over time is normal and inevitable. It doesn't mean something is wrong; it means the piece is being worn.
Daily Rules
Last on, first off. Put your bracelet on after moisturiser, sunscreen, and perfume, and take it off before washing your hands, cooking, working out, or sleeping. Soap residue builds up in links and around settings over time and is one of the more common reasons pieces lose their brightness.
What to Avoid
Chlorine is corrosive to gold alloys, so pools and hot tubs are worth skipping. The same goes for bleach, household cleaners, and hand sanitisers with high alcohol content, these are harder on gold than most people expect. Avoid abrasives too: toothpaste and baking soda are often suggested as home cleaning methods, but both are rough enough to scratch a polished surface. High heat and steam are best avoided as well, particularly if your bracelet includes gemstones.
Wearing and Fit
A well-fitting bracelet is less likely to get damaged. One that's too loose will be more likely to catch on things; one that's too tight puts stress on the links and clasp with every movement.
Storage
Store your bracelet flat or coiled loosely, with the clasp fastened. Keep it away from other pieces. Bracelets in particular tend to tangle with chains and scratch against harder stones. A small pouch or box is enough. When travelling, don't leave it loose in a bag where it can knock around.

Gemstones add another layer of consideration. Soap, lotion, and general residue accumulate quickly beneath settings on a bracelet, dulling the stone from underneath. A soft brush and warm water work well for routine cleaning, but check with a jeweller before using anything stronger. If a stone looks loose or a setting feels like it's catching on fabric or skin, stop wearing it and have it checked before the stone is lost.

Bracelets wear faster than necklaces simply because they sit where they are. If the clasp feels loose, links look stretched or misshapen, or a setting feels unstable — bring it in. The earlier a problem is caught, the simpler it is to fix.
